What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening or teeth bleaching is the process of lightening the natural colour of teeth using hydrogen peroxide and/orcarbanide peroxide.

Does whitening damage the teeth?

The answer is no. Teeth whitening does not damage the enamal of your teeth. Occasionally, there may be side effects.

 

What is the process of teeth whitening?

The actual whitening process involves the dentist drying your mouth, and applying a gel made of 15% to 35% hydrogen peroxide to your front teeth. Hydrogen peroxide can penetrate the porous outer layer of your teeth and dissolve the stain compounds that have built up ,using chemical reaction known as oxidation. Finally the dentist will clean the teeth.

How long does the procedure take? 

The initial procedure can take between thirty (30) to ninety (90) minutes.

 

How many treatments are required in order to get the desired results?

It may require one to three appointments to completely whiten the teeth, this will depend on the severity of the stains on your teeth and also how white you desire your teeth to be.

 

Can you eat and a drink after teeth whitening?

The answer is yes. However it is necessary to avoid certain foods and drinks that may restain your teeth.

Teeth whitening does not damage the enamal of your teeth.
